| Obverse description | Facing lion's mask rendered in high relief, with boldly modelled mane radiating symmetrically around the visage, deeply set eyes, broad nose, and open jaws. The naturalistic treatment of the mane, with individual locks curling outward into the field, is characteristic of the refined Samian engraving tradition of the early Hellenistic period. |
