Obverse description A nude male rider seated on a walking horse facing right, rendered in the early Sicilian archaic style with confident, elegant lines. The horse is depicted in profile with its tail curving downward and legs in a walking gait, set upon a ground line. The rider holds the reins with his left arm extended forward, his body upright and finely modeled. The field is plain, with a beaded or cable border encircling the design.

Reverse description A facing lion's head rendered frontally in high relief, with a dramatically open roaring mouth exposing teeth and a protruding tongue. The mane is rendered as radiating striated locks framing the face, flanked by two olive leaves on either side and an additional olive leaf below. The ethnic inscription ΛΕΟΝΤΙΝΟΝ is arranged around the design within a beaded border, the letters distributed in the field alongside the lion's head in typical early Sicilian coinage fashion.
