| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet adorned with a decorative olive wreath scroll at the bowl; the hair falls in fine engraved locks beneath the helmet rim. The facial features are rendered in a bold, high-relief style characteristic of the Veis workshop. The legend ΥΕΛΗΤΩΝ appears in Greek characters in the right field, identifying the coin as an issue of the citizens of Velia. A small ethnic symbol or control mark is visible near the neckline in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | A lion crouching and springing to the left, rendered in vigorous high relief with musculature finely detailed; the mane is elaborately worked with incised curling locks, and the open jaws display bared teeth. The animal's haunches are raised and the forelegs are extended forward in a dynamic attacking pose, set upon a plain ground line. A retrograde Greek letter Beta (Β) appears as a control mark in the upper field above the lion's back. Additional small letters serving as a magistrate's or engraver's mark are visible in the right field near the lion's head. |
