Kolchis occupied a peculiar position in the ancient monetary world — the region absorbed coinage conventions from Greek trading partners without ever fully committing to a single issuing authority. These didrachms circulated in a zone where Greek merchants, Scythian traders, and local dynasts all intersected, and the lack of a definitive city attribution after more than a century of scholarship reflects genuine ambiguity in the archaeological record, not mere cataloging laziness.
