The Greek ethnic legend YEΛHTΩN is inscribed in the field, identifying the coin as an issue of the Hyeleatan people. Above the lion's back, the control letter Θ appears in the upper field, while the engraver's monogram ΚΛΕΥ is placed below the exergual line. The lion type is a hallmark of the Velia coinage and echoes Phocaean artistic traditions. |
