Obverse description A hound depicted in profile standing to right, head lowered in a sniffing or hunting posture, rendered with naturalistic musculature characteristic of late Archaic Sicilian die-cutting. The animal's tail curves upward behind its haunches, and the four legs are clearly articulated. A decorative ornament, likely a palmette or floral motif, occupies the exergue beneath a ground line, separated from the main field by a row of dots forming a border.
