Obverse description A hunting hound depicted in left profile, standing alert in the field with its tail arched gracefully over its back in a characteristic curled posture. The animal wears a collar around its neck, rendered with fine detail, and is shown in a naturalistic stance indicative of the high artistic quality of early Sicilian coinage. The composition is unencumbered by legend or border, allowing the hound motif to dominate the flan in a bold and accomplished manner.
