Reverse description A lion passant left with the right foreleg raised, depicted in vigorous and naturalistic style typical of the Velian coinage of this period. Above the lion in the upper field, the letter Φ appears as a control mark. Below the lion, the engraver's monogram of ΚΛΕΥ is placed in the exergual area, mirroring its appearance on the obverse. The ethnic legend ΥΕΛΗΤΩΝ encircles the design, identifying the issuing community of Hyele (Velia).
