Reverse description A large crab rendered in bold relief, viewed from above, with prominent claws extended upward and four pairs of legs spread across the field, occupying the upper portion of the flan. Below, a small male head facing right, wearing what appears to be a helmet or close-fitting cap, is flanked on either side by the letters A and Σ (from the ethnic AKRAGANTOS), completing the civic abbreviation. The deeply incuse, roughly square die impression characteristic of early archaic hammered coinage is evident in the fabric.
