Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a rampant lion facing left occupies the central field, holding a globus cruciger in its right forepaw and an upright sword in its left. At the lion's feet, a Spanish-style shield bearing the diagonal bicolor arms of Zürich is prominently displayed. The devices are rendered in the vigorous late-Renaissance heraldic style characteristic of early 17th-century Swiss municipal coinage. The circumferential Latin legend runs along the outer border of the square klippe flan.
