Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned heraldic bear of Bern displayed on a shield, flanked by the mintmaster's initials B and B in the field to either side. Above the shield, a bold imperial eagle displayed in high relief. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads within a beaded border, identifying the coin as a new coinage of Bern.
