Dichalkous - Phraates IV

Phraates IV secured the Parthian throne by murdering his father Orodes II and then systematically eliminating his brothers — some thirty of them by ancient account. The bronze coinage of his early reign, including this small denomination, circulated during the period when he briefly lost control of the empire to the pretender Tiridates II, who ousted him around 32 BC before Phraates retook power with Scythian military support.

Sellwood 51.46 is among the scarcer small bronzes of this reign, with relatively few die-linked examples documented across major collections.
