Reverse description Astarte, the principal deity of Sidon, stands facing left atop the prow of a war galley, rendered in the hieratic frontal-to-three-quarter stance traditional to Phoenician religious iconography. In her right hand she grasps a ship's tiller, symbolising maritime dominion, while her left hand raises a long standard or sceptre. To the left of the figure appears the regnal or civic year of issue rendered in Greek numerals. Below the prow, a Phoenician inscription records the city ethnic, with the Greek legend ΣΙΔΩΝΙΩΝ ('of the Sidonians') completing the identification of the issuing city.
