Seleukeia ad Kalykadnon, situated on the Kalykadnos River in Rough Cilicia, operated as a largely autonomous civic mint throughout the Hellenistic period despite nominal Seleucid and later Roman suzerainty. The city's bronze coinage served intensely local commercial needs — the rugged terrain of the Tracheia kept it economically semi-isolated in ways that coastal Cilician cities were not.
