Beschrijving voorzijde Bare head of Ares facing right, depicted in three-quarter profile, wearing a crested Attic helmet fitted with cheek guards and a prominent forward-curving crest. The facial features are rendered in a Hellenistic style with careful attention to the brow and jaw. The neck truncation is visible at the lower edge of the flan. Aanvullende informatie

Metropolis in Ionia — not to be confused with the Thessalian city of the same name — was a minor polis whose civic coinage output was modest enough that individual issues rarely surface in quantity. The city gained prominence under Attalid patronage before passing to Roman administration following the bequest of Attalos III in 133 BC, placing this issue squarely in the unsettled early decades of the provincia Asia, when civic mints across the region were navigating new fiscal relationships with Rome.

SNG Copenhagen 903 remains the standard reference point; die linkage studies for Ionian Metropolis are essentially nonexistent in the literature.
