Dichalkon - Dionysas

Abdera, the Thracian coastal city, had a complicated monetary history shaped by repeated Persian occupation, Athenian League membership, and eventual Macedonian dominance. By the time this bronze was struck, the city was issuing small-denomination coinage under heavy Macedonian influence but retaining its own civic identity — the magistrate name Dionysas appearing as a local official responsible for the issue, a naming convention Abdera maintained consistently across its later bronze series.
