Artavasdes I ruled Media Atropatene as a client of Rome following the collapse of Parthian influence in the region after Phraates IV's internal troubles, though his kingdom consistently played both powers against each other. Bronze issues of this reign are poorly documented in major collections, and Alram 236 remains one of the few systematic references anchoring the type. The kingdom itself — centered on what is now northwestern Iran — left almost no literary record of its coinage in ancient sources.
