| 背面描述 | A monogram composed of the letters ΜΕ, abbreviating the ethnic of Methana, boldly incised within a solid incuse circle or ring that serves as a border. The monogram is formed by superimposing epsilon upon mu in a compact ligature, a common civic device on small Peloponnesian bronze issues of this period. The design is simply composed and centrally placed within the available flan, with no additional devices or legends. |

Methana — the small volcanic peninsula jutting into the Saronic Gulf between the Argolid and Attica — produced autonomous bronze coinage only during a narrow window before falling under Macedonian and later Ptolemaic influence. The BCD Peloponnesos 1330 reference places this piece within a collection assembled over decades by one of the twentieth century's most respected private numismatists, whose Peloponnesian holdings remain the definitive reference point for many otherwise poorly documented civic bronzes from this region.
Methana's independent coinage is rare enough that individual die studies are difficult to conduct at scale.
