| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bears the abbreviated ethnic legend ΗΡΑ (for Herakleion or Herakleia) inscribed within a wreath of olive or laurel branches rendered in low relief, encircling the inscription on all sides. The wreath is composed of stylized leaves arranged symmetrically, consistent with the civic bronze coinage conventions of Herakleia Trachinia. The flan is irregular and the surface retains an even dark patina characteristic of ancient struck bronze. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Herakleia Trachinia was a Spartan foundation, established in 426 BC at the strategic pass of Thermopylae — ostensibly to support Spartan operations in northern Greece, but also to check the regional ambitions of Thessaly and the Oetaean tribes simultaneously. The city's coinage is sparse and poorly understood, and the BCD Thessaly II sale in 2006 remains the primary reference point serious collectors work from.
