Reverse description A dolphin curves sinuously across the field, its body arching from upper left to lower right, serving as the principal civic badge of Hermione, a coastal city of the Argolid whose identity was closely tied to the sea. Within or beside the dolphin's body appear the abbreviated ethnic letters ΕΡ (for ΕΡΜΙΟΝΕΩΝ), incuse within a linear frame or cartouche. The composition is characteristic of small Peloponnesian civic bronzes of the Hellenistic period, struck on an irregular flan with moderate centering.
