Obverse description A plain cross pattée occupies the central field, its arms extending nearly to the inner border. The cross is rendered in a bold, slightly irregular style characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. A circular inner border of pellets or beaded ring surrounds the central motif. The circumferential legend reads VVILELMO, invoking the name of Count William III of Toulouse, preceded by a cross pommée as an initial mark.
