Obverse description A cross pattée occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms extend nearly to the inner border, with slightly flared terminals characteristic of the pattée form. A Latin circular legend reading +:G:DVX*ATENES surrounds the inner circle, identifying the issuer as Duke of Athens. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, typical of hammered medieval billon coinage.

Reverse description A stylised castle tournois — depicted as a three-towered fortification — occupies the upper portion of the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Beneath the castle appears a horizontal bar or portcullis element, consistent with the Tournois castle type derived from the denier tournois of France. A Latin circular legend reading +:THEBE*CIVIS surrounds the inner circle, identifying the city of Thebes as the place of issue. The overall design closely imitates the French denier tournois, adapted for feudal Frankish Greece.
