Obverse description Central field displays the name GVILERMVS arranged in two lines within a beaded inner circle, surmounted and underscored by horizontal bars, with a small cross above and a pellet below, forming a monogram-type composition characteristic of medieval French episcopal coinage. The legend GVLE RMVS + ARCHIEPISCOPVS runs around the periphery in Roman capitals, identifying William as Archbishop. The flan is irregular in shape, typical of hand-struck billon deniers of the period, with moderate wear to the high points of the lettering.
