Obverse description Plain cross pattée centered within a beaded inner circle. The comital legend VVALTERIVS C (Count Walter) is distributed around the periphery in Latin characters, reading between the inner circle and the coin's irregular outer rim. The lettering is boldly struck in the Romanesque epigraphic style typical of early 11th-century feudal coinage.
