Denier - Vladislaus I

Vladislaus I — Władysław III of Poland, ruling Hungary after the death of Albert II — held the throne for barely three years before dying at Varna in November 1444, when the Ottoman forces of Murad II destroyed the crusading army he led. These deniers were struck during the campaign years, a period when the Hungarian treasury was under severe strain from military financing. The overlapping references (ÉH#467/471, H#603/604) reflect attribution disputes between die varieties that remain only partially resolved in the literature.
