| Opschrift voorzijde | VALENTINVS P ✠ • SCS PETRVS (Translation: Pope Valentine. Saint Peter.) |
| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a Carolingian imperial monogram for Ludovicus (Louis the Pious), flanked by two pellets in the field, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is rendered in bold interlaced letterforms characteristic of Carolingian-era coinage. A circular peripheral legend surrounds the beaded border, identifying the emperor. The overall die work reflects the joint ecclesiastical and imperial authority expressed on Papal-Carolingian coinage of the early ninth century. |

Issued jointly in the names of Pope Eugene II's successor Valentine and Emperor Louis the Pious, this denier reflects the brief co-authority arrangement under the Constitutio Romana of 824, by which Louis reasserted Carolingian oversight of papal elections. Valentine reigned for roughly forty days in late 827 before dying — making any coinage bearing his name exceptionally rare by simple arithmetic of production time.
