The design is rendered in the crude, bold style characteristic of Bohemian-Moravian hammered deniers of the late 11th to early 12th century. Fragmentary Latin legend surrounds the outer field, largely illegible due to the irregular flan and die wear. Ulrich (Oldřich) ruled Brno as a Přemyslid appanage prince under the Moravian partition established by Bretislaus I in 1055, which divided Moravia among junior members of the dynasty to prevent succession crises — a policy that instead generated decades of fraternal conflict.
