Reverse description Central field displays the characteristic Tours castle device — a stylized turret or chatel tournois — enclosed within concentric circles, with a pellet visible in the lower field. The surrounding peripheral legend in uncial Latin reads TVROnVS CIVIS FRAnCIA (The city of Tours, France), identifying the Tournois monetary tradition. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, consistent with the hammered production technique of the period. The reverse type faithfully perpetuates the classic denier tournois design established centuries earlier at the abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours.
