Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIII facing right, wearing a lace ruff collar, within a circular Latin legend. The portrait is rendered in a simple, crude style characteristic of early 17th-century French copper coinage. The legend reads LOVIS XIII R DE FRAN ET NAVA (or abbreviated variants), separated by dotted crosses. The field is flat with no additional ornamentation.
