Obverse description Central field enclosed within a raised inner circle displaying two fleurs-de-lys arranged in the field, characteristic of the royal Capetian heraldic tradition. The devices are struck in low relief on a flat, irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered medieval billon coinage. A circular legend in uncial Gothic lettering surrounds the central motif, separated from the inner circle by a dotted border. The overall style is consistent with the sparse, emblematic iconography of French royal deniers tournois of the mid-fifteenth century.
