The surrounding legend reads BRITONV DVX, identifying the issuer as Duke of the Britons, preceded by a cross pattée. The style follows the standard tournois denier reverse type widespread in feudal French coinage of the period. The hammered fabric results in a slightly irregular flan with some weakness at the edges. |
