| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features a plain cross with splayed arms enclosed within a raised inner circle, imitating the standard Tournois denier type. The cross is boldly struck in high relief against a flat field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading + IOHS DESPOTVS, identifying the issuer as John II Orsini, Despot of Epirus. The flan is irregularly shaped and shows characteristic roughness of hammered billon coinage. The overall design closely follows the French denier tournois prototype adapted for Epirote feudal coinage. |
