| 正面描述 | Central cross pattée with splayed arms dividing the field into four quarters. The surrounding legend in Latin reads IOHANNES REX, introduced by a cross pommée. The die is struck on a roughly trimmed flan typical of hammered medieval billon coinage, with irregular edges and moderate wear obscuring fine detail. |

John II issued this denier tournois in 1354, three years before his capture at Poitiers — a defeat so total that it triggered the ransom crisis and the catastrophic monetary debasements of his later reign. The tournois was already a diminished denomination by this point, its silver content having been ground down through successive reductions across the preceding decades. Dy 338 distinguishes this second type from John's first by subtle die modifications that collectors routinely conflate in worn examples.
