Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Henri IV facing right, rendered in low relief in the characteristic style of late 16th-century French hammered coinage. The king is depicted bearded, wearing a crown or laurel wreath, with a cuirassed or draped shoulder visible below. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading HENRIC.IIII.D.G.FRAN.ET.NA.REX.B, identifying the king as Henri IV, by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre, with the mint mark B for Rouen. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered production of this period.
