Obverse description Bare effigy of Gaston d'Orléans facing right, with the letter A positioned beneath the bust as a mint or die mark. The legend commences at 8 o'clock and is not enclosed within a circle. The portrait is rendered in a plain, unadorned style consistent with small copper coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.
