| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Gaston d'Orléans facing right, rendered in low relief in the hammered style typical of mid-17th century French feudal coinage. The legend commences at approximately 8 o'clock and runs clockwise around the periphery, without an inner circle or beaded border enclosing the effigy. Depending on the die variety, the obverse legend presents one of three abbreviated forms referencing Gaston's title as usufructuary prince of Dombes. |
