| Obverse description | Crude hammered silver denier of square flan with chamfered corners. The obverse displays a stylized bust or head in low relief, rendered in the rough die-cutting style typical of early medieval Lotharingian coinage. The design is surrounded by a beaded inner border, with the field showing considerable die wear and surface irregularities characteristic of hand-struck issues of this period. The legend THEODERICVS DVX, referencing Duke Theodoric I of Upper Lotharingia, runs around the periphery. |
