| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central short cross pattée with two large pellets placed in diagonally opposite quadrants, the whole enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding field carries the bishop's name and title in Latin legend. The hammered fabric gives the flan a characteristically irregular outline typical of early 11th-century episcopal coinage of the Lorraine region. |

The Bishopric of Metz exercised comital rights over its coinage under a series of imperial grants that accelerated during the Ottonian period, when German bishops were systematically elevated as counterweights to secular princes. This particular type, struck under Bishop Theoderic II, takes its name from the temple-form moneychangers' building at Épinal — a commercial landmark significant enough to warrant its own coinage type within the episcopal mint's output.
Dann Sa#28 is among the scarcer documented varieties from this episcopal series.
