Obverse description A plain long cross extends to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters and interrupting the surrounding legend. A crescent is placed in one angle of the cross. The circular legend, rendered in uncial characters, reads ROGER CON, identifying the issuer as Roger, Count. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edge, typical of hand-struck medieval feudal coinage.

Obverse lettering ROGER CON
(Translation: Roger, count.)
Reverse description A tall crozier or pastoral staff is depicted at the centre of the field, flanked on either side by a pellet and two vertical strokes (I I), forming the principal device. The motif is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, around which runs the circular legend in uncial characters identifying the city of Carcassonne. The overall design is characteristic of the episcopal and comital feudal deniers of Languedoc in the late twelfth century.
