| Opis awersu | Central field depicts a stylized bishop's bust or mitre-like figure in high relief, rendered in a crude Romanesque style characteristic of late 11th-century Flemish coinage. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which radiate decorative lines or rays dividing the outer field into segments. The overall composition is typical of ecclesiastical-type deniers struck in the name of Saint Vaast (Vedastus), patron of Arras. The legend VEDASTVS, referencing the saint, runs in the surrounding field. The irregular flan and variable strike are consistent with hand-hammered production of the period. |
