| Obverse description | Crude front-facing bust of King Robert II of France in high relief, rendered in the Romanesque hammered style characteristic of early medieval French feudal coinage. The effigy is depicted schematically with minimal detail, occupying the central field of the coin. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading ✠ ROB FRAN REX, identifying the issuer as Robert, King of the Franks. The die workmanship is rough and the flan irregular, consistent with eleventh-century episcopal mint production. |
