Reverse description Crude front-facing bust of Bishop Adalbero of Laon, flanked by two pellets in the field on either side of the effigy, rendered in a schematic Romanesque style consistent with the obverse. The bishop's figure is depicted in a simplified, frontal manner typical of early eleventh-century feudal hammered deniers. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading ✠ ADALBERO LAD EP, identifying the bishop and the see of Laon. The overall workmanship reflects the primitive engraving techniques of the Laon episcopal mint during this period.
