Obverse description A plain Greek cross with equal arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The cross divides the inner area into four quarters. The circular legend surrounding the border reads the name of the issuing lord, Raymond Trencavel, in abbreviated Latin. The overall style is typical of feudal French hammered coinage of the mid-12th century, struck on a roughly shaped flan with irregular edges.
