| Opis awersu | Large facing bust of Raymond of Poitiers occupying the central field, rendered in a bold, somewhat stylized medieval manner with visible facial features including a prominent eye and short hair indicated by incuse lines. The bust is encircled by a beaded inner border, beyond which the Latin legend RAYMYNIVS runs around the periphery in crude but legible characters. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered Crusader coinage of the period, and the relief is relatively high for the denomination. The overall execution reflects the provincial workshop character of the Antiochene mint in the mid-twelfth century. |
