Obverse description Plain cross with annulets in the angles occupying the central field, all within a plain inner circle. The cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing a small annulet, a characteristic device of the viscounts of Turenne. The surrounding legend reads RAIMVNDVS, introduced by a cross pattée, and is executed in somewhat irregular Roman capitals typical of medieval feudal hammered coinage. The flan is irregularly shaped and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period.
