| Obverse description | Central fleur-de-lis rendered in a stylized, somewhat crude Romanesque manner, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A Latin legend reading BARCINO (Barcelona) runs around the periphery, partially visible owing to the irregular flan and characteristic die-wear of hammered medieval coinage. The lettering is composed of angular, uncial-style capital letters interspersed with pellets as word dividers. The overall design is characteristic of the early feudal deniers struck in the County of Barcelona under Ramon Berenguer III. |
