Obverse description Central field occupied by the RODLF monogram, a ligature of the letters composing the name of Archbishop Ralph (Raoul), executed in the angular Carolingian manner typical of early 12th-century French ecclesiastical coinage. The monogram is enclosed within a circular Latin legend reading RODLF ✠ ARCNIEPI, identifying the issuing prelate as Archbishop. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with weak striking evident at the periphery consistent with hammered production.
