Reverse description Central device depicting a cross potent set upon three steps (a Calvary cross), with a wedge or pellet to the right of the cross shaft, a motif associated with Beneventan ecclesiastical symbolism. The design is enclosed within a circular Latin legend invoking Archangel Michael, patron of the Lombard principality. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat weak in areas, typical of hammered silver deniers of this period and region.
