| Obverse description | Central field displays a large Gothic letter 'S' surmounted by a royal crown with fleurs-de-lis, the whole design rendered in the medieval hammered style typical of early 16th-century Polish coinage. The crowned 'S' monogram serves as the royal cypher of Sigismund I (Zygmunt I Stary), occupying virtually the entire flan. The relief is bold but irregular due to the hand-struck technique, with the crown's arches and jewelling clearly articulated above the monogram. No legend is present on this side. The irregular flan edge is characteristic of hammered silver deniers of this period. |
