Denier poznański - Hedwig I Poznań mint

Hedwig I — known in Polish as Jadwiga — was only ten years old when she was crowned "King" of Poland in 1384, her title deliberately masculine to establish her as sovereign rather than consort. These deniers from the Poznań mint fall within the opening years of her reign, before her 1386 marriage to Władysław II Jagiełło fundamentally reoriented Polish foreign policy toward Lithuania and set the Jagiellonian dynasty in motion. The Poznań mint had been intermittently active through the preceding Piast fragmentation period, and its output under Jadwiga remains sparse.
